Question 1

How much can the IRS Fresh Start Program reduce my tax debt?

Accepted Answer

The reduction depends on your specific financial situation, but eligible taxpayers often see dramatic results. Some qualify for Offers in Compromise that settle their debt for pennies on the dollar—in certain cases reducing what they owe by 90% or more. The key factors are your income, expenses, assets, and ability to pay. If you're facing financial hardship or your income has dropped significantly, you may qualify for larger reductions. For Wayne County residents dealing with seasonal income or agricultural businesses, these fluctuations often work in your favor. The IRS would rather collect something than nothing, which is why they're willing to negotiate. But the paperwork has to be perfect, and you need to present your case in the strongest possible light—that's where professional representation makes all the difference.

Question 2

What if I owe more than $50,000 in back taxes?

Accepted Answer

You still have options, even with larger tax debts. While the streamlined Installment Agreement program caps at $50,000, we can negotiate traditional payment plans for higher amounts or explore partial payment agreements that work with your budget. For debts over $50,000, the IRS requires more detailed financial disclosure, but this actually gives us more opportunities to demonstrate hardship and negotiate better terms. We've helped clients with six-figure tax debts get manageable payment plans and significant penalty reductions. The worst thing you can do is ignore large tax debt. Interest and penalties compound daily, and the IRS has virtually unlimited collection powers. But with proper representation, even substantial tax debt can be resolved in ways that let you keep your home, your business, and your financial dignity.

Question 3

How long does the Fresh Start Program process take?

Accepted Answer

Most cases resolve within 2-6 months, though complex situations may take longer. The timeline depends on which relief option fits your situation and how quickly the IRS processes your application. Offers in Compromise typically take 6-12 months for the IRS to review, but collection actions stop once we submit your application. Installment Agreements usually get approved within 30-60 days. Currently Not Collectible status can be granted quickly if you meet the financial hardship criteria. The important thing is that relief starts immediately. As soon as we represent you, the threatening letters stop coming to your house. IRS collection agents deal with us instead of calling you at work. And you can sleep at night knowing professionals are handling your case properly.

Question 4

Will the IRS accept an Offer in Compromise for my situation?

Accepted Answer

The IRS accepts about 40% of properly prepared Offers in Compromise, but the key phrase is "properly prepared." Most people who try to handle OIC applications themselves get rejected because they don't understand the complex financial formulas the IRS uses. We analyze your case thoroughly before recommending an OIC. If your income, expenses, and assets don't support a successful offer, we'll tell you honestly and suggest better alternatives like payment plans or hardship status. We don't take cases we can't win. For Wayne County residents, factors like seasonal employment, agricultural income fluctuations, and high property tax burdens often strengthen OIC applications. The IRS considers your local cost of living and specific circumstances—advantages that many national tax resolution firms miss because they don't understand our area.

Question 5

Can you help if I haven't filed tax returns for several years?

Accepted Answer

Absolutely. Unfiled returns are actually one of the most common problems we handle, and getting current with your filings is often the first step toward resolving your overall tax situation. We can prepare and file your missing returns, often reducing your liability through legitimate deductions and credits you might have missed. Sometimes people owe much less than they feared once we properly prepare their returns with all available deductions. The IRS requires current filing compliance before approving most relief programs, so getting those returns filed is essential. But don't worry about gathering perfect records—we know how to work with incomplete documentation and can often obtain missing tax documents directly from the IRS or your employers.

Question 6

Why shouldn't I just handle this myself with the IRS?

Accepted Answer

You wouldn't go to court without a lawyer, so why face the IRS without a tax professional? The IRS has teams of trained agents whose job is to collect as much as possible from you. You need someone on your side who knows their tactics and procedures. Tax resolution involves complex laws, strict deadlines, and detailed financial analysis. One mistake on your paperwork can result in rejection and months of additional penalties and interest. Professional representation often pays for itself through better outcomes and faster resolution. Most importantly, having representation means the IRS deals with us instead of you. No more stressful phone calls at work. No more threatening letters to your home. We handle all communication while you get back to living your life. Call 570-630-0201 or book online today—we will stand between you and the IRS, negotiate the lowest legal settlement, and give you the fresh start you deserve.
